Pay & rates
Piece Rate Pay Calculator
Add piecework and hourly earnings for one period into a single gross pay total.
Use this when part of your pay comes per completed unit and part comes per paid hour, before overtime or deduction rules.
What the result means
The result adds piecework earnings to hourly earnings for one shared period. It keeps both components visible and adds nothing for overtime, premiums, or deductions.
The formula
Pieces completed * rate per piece + paid hours * hourly rate
Results are displayed to at most two decimal places. Calculations use the unrounded inputs.
A worked example
Put the formula to work
- Pieces completed (units per period)
- 750
- Rate per piece (currency per unit)
- 0.22
- Paid hours (hours per period)
- 35
- Hourly rate (currency per hour)
- 8
Estimated gross pay from piecework plus hours (input currency): 445.00
750 pieces at 0.22 each gives 165, and 35 hours at 8 per hour gives 280, for 445 gross pay in the period.
How to use this calculator
- Count the completed units that qualify for piece-rate pay in the period.
- Multiply those units by the agreed rate per piece.
- Multiply paid hours by the hourly rate for the time-based portion.
- Add the two amounts, then review overtime and deduction rules separately.
Why this number matters
Keeping the piecework and hourly components separate makes mixed pay easier to check than a single combined total.
Input definitions
- Pieces completed (units per period)
- Finished units that qualify for piece-rate pay.
- Rate per piece (currency per unit)
- Agreed gross pay for each qualifying unit.
- Paid hours (hours per period)
- Hours paid at the hourly portion of the arrangement.
- Hourly rate (currency per hour)
- Gross hourly rate for the time-based portion.
Assumptions and limitations
- Does not apply taxes, overtime premiums, holiday pay, or statutory rules.
- Assumes every completed unit qualifies at the same rate per piece.
- Guaranteed-minimum, quota, and clawback clauses sit outside this arithmetic.
